The representatives of the Ibero-American countries participating in the 5th Ibero-American Forum on Migration and Development have recognized the role of safe, orderly and regular migration as a lever for sustainable development for the region. To this end, they have reaffirmed the channels of regular migration, which “contribute to reduce irregularity, respond to the demographic challenges of the region and meet the needs of the labor markets”, recognizing the generation of mutual benefits for the countries of origin, transit and destination.
The delegations are committed, with the accompaniment of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), to work on a Report of Good Practices in the field of labor mobility that allows us to systematize the experiences of the region and explore or strengthen mechanisms of mobility between Ibero-American countries, For this reason, reality pushes us to approach it with cooperation,” he said.
For his part, the Ibero-American Assistant Secretary, Frederico Ludovice, has emphasized that “the history of Ibero-America is deeply intertwined with these multiple migratory waves, internal and external, which far from fragmenting us, have contributed to build a rich and plural regional identity,” being this a characteristic feature of the Ibero-American Community.
Protection against disinformation
One of the central axes of the Forum It was recalled the need to protect migrants against this disinformation and discrimination, and to promote fair and evidence-based narratives on the contribution of migration to the sustainable development of our societies.
